CFP: Hume’s Metaphysics and Humean Metaphysics

Call for Papers: Hume’s Metaphysics and Humean Metaphysics – School of Humanities and Social Sciences – University of Tampere, Finland – June 20-22, 2011

The idea of the conference is to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Hume’s birth by promoting fruitful discussion between Hume scholars and metaphysicians.

Abstract Submission Deadline: March 15, 2011 (Notification of acceptance by April 11, 2011).

Keynote Speakers:

Professor Donald L.M. Baxter (University of Connecticut)

Professor Don Garrett (New York University)

Professor E.J. Lowe (Durham University)

Professor Stephen Mumford (University of Nottingham)

We welcome abstract submissions in both Hume scholarship and contemporary metaphysics. The historical submissions ought to concern metaphysics and the systematic submissions must discuss Humeanism in ontology (e.g. Humean Supervenience, Humean causation, Humean trope theory). The word limit for the abstracts is 400 words. The final papers should be no longer than 30 minutes in reading time.

Please send the abstract (PDF file preferred) including the author’s name, the title of the paper, institutional affiliation, and email address to:
